Day wise Itinerary for Great Lakes Trek

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek itinerary, The basic trekking  is Seven Nights eight Day, To Complete the total  Trekking route from Sonamarg to Naranag. There are Countless unexplored alpine lakes which needs more time to explore. Itinerary  Details, The Breakfast is served around 7.30.A.M every morning. The trek starts 8.30. A.M in the morning. You will carry your pack lunch and 12.30 to 1 .pm. is lunch time. Trekking Guide and  Back up horse will company you in small batches. and big batches will have Guide, co-guide and two back up horses.

Sind Valley  Sonamarg Shitkadi Altitude 2800 Meters 

Day 1 :Srinagar to Sonamarg : The journey Start’s after noon from Srinagar center by car up to  Sonamarg 3 hours Drive. Over night foot hills of Tajwais glacier.   On bank of Sind River in camps.  This is very important for acclimatization.  A short hike to tajwais glacier can be wonderful to get in high altitude condition.

Nichnai valley  altitude 3500 Meters

Day 2 : Sonamarg to Nichnai 6 Hours Trek 11 km Distance: The Path Start from Sonamarg up to shekdur.  The Trail encounters long pine trees , Vast pastures , covered with lush green grass ,white mountains , and glacier stream that will run along the way.  The track directs in to silver birch forest and finally advances throughout boulders route up to Nichnai valley. This is will be your first occurrence on high altitude mountains of this trek, so headache is a common experience

Vishansar Lake   Altitude 4000 Meters

Day 3 : Nichnai to Vishansar alpine Great Lake 7 hours trek and 13 km Distance : The Route Start’s from Nichinai valley,  The first 3 hours climb up to Nichnai pass is steep .  The Pass is almost 4000 meters high.  The meadows en route are carpeted with a startling array of wild flowers and incorporates the magical  view of great Himalayan mountains.  After Nichnai top descending gradually to the Vishansar Lake campsite. This is First Alpine lake in Kashmir Great Lakes.

Day 4 : Krishansar alpine Great lake: It is rest day you can  make a short hiking tour up to krishansar lake , and do sight-seen  around , trout angling can be option. The meadows around lakes are very beautiful .

Yamsar and Gadsar Lake   Altitude 4300 Meters 

Day 5 : Vishansar to Gadsar alpine Great Lake 8 Hours Trek and 16 km Distance: This is a Difficult  day for every one in team, You need best weather to cross the Gadsar pass.The Track Start’s from Vishansar the first climb to Krishansar lake is easy going.  From Krishansar lake two hours very steep ascend up to Gadsar pass 4300 meters. From the pass the real paradise begin of magical great lakes.  On a clear day a magnificent view of yamsar lake and the Nanga Parvat is possible.  Wild flowers, glaciers, rare herbs, wild animals are other beauty of this trail.

Satsar Lake Altitude 3400 meters

Day 6 : Gadsar to Satsar alpine Great lakes 4 hours trek and 10 km Distance: The trail starts from Gadsar campsite. After crossing the snow bridge it is a moderate ascends up to Kustoorkut, on the opposite of Kustoorkut there is a lone permanent settlement of Nomadic helmet is called Jawdora . After Kustoorkut you will take left curve to arrive at the Satsaran campsite. While reaching the campsite you will visit the satsar lake.

 Harmukh Peak and Gangabal Lakes  Altitude 4000 Meters 

Day 7: Megandob To Gangabal Twin alpine great lakes 6 hours trek and 11 km Distance: The Track starts with climb from Mengandob to zaji pass 3 hour.   From zaji pass you will spot twin lakes of Gangabal and Nandkhol with the clear view of Mount (Harmukh 5400 meters altitude) including Khoulsar lake. There are other small lakes to view from the pass.  From Zaji pass it is bit difficult descend up to the  Gangabal campsite near the lake..

Naranag Village and Temple Altitude 2200 Meters

Day 8 : Gangabal to  Naranag valley 6 hours Trek and 15 km Distance: The path starts with easy  Walking up to Trundkhul, Budshare ridge, from the ridge a difficult 4 hours descend begin    up to the Naranag valley. After reaching the Naranag, you will visit  4000 years old Naranag temple ruins and drive to Srinagar.
